Day 5: January 12th Psalm 139
January 12th: Psalm 139
Psalm 139 is one of the scriptures that people love because it has a reassuring message for us and an awe-inspiring understanding of God.
Have you ever sat and thought; Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? Do I really matter? Does my life have a purpose? If God exists, does He know I exist? And if He does, does He even care that I exist?
To these very important questions Psalm 139 responds with a resounding YES! This psalm links us with God as do many other verses in the Bible. Our God is an omniscient (vs. 1-6), omnipresent (vs.7-12), omnipotent (vs. 13-18) and omni-compotent (vs. 19-24) God has fearfully and wonderfully made us (v. 14), fashioning all our days before we were even formed in our mother’s womb (v.16).
Psalm 139 is a reminder of enduring love. Let the knowledge of an omniscient God wrap around you physically, emotionally and spiritually today and every day, because it’s not just that God knows everything, HE KNOWS YOU.
Let the theology of an omnipresent God awaken your heart to an intimate, STEP BY STEP TRUST in Him.
Let the knowledge of God’s creating power turn to AWE and WONDER as you believe that same powerful hand is holding you in love and constant care. All he wants is a personal intimate relationship with us.
psalm 139 shows us how God uses his infinite knowledge and power to bring us closer to him.
Psalm 139:1-4 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
God knows you better than you know yourself. The psalmist recognizes that God knows everything about him. God knows all of our thoughts, fears, joys, sorrows, and everything we will do and think in the future. God’s knowledge about us is probably greater than we can even imagine.
Psalm 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!
It may be alarming to think that God knows everything about us, including all the bad stuff. But the Bible says that even though God knows all of our thoughts, he still loves us.
Psalm 139:7-8 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.
This psalm goes on to tell us how God is always around us and with us. God will never leave you!
Maybe you’ve had people close to you leave you: a friend or even a parent. The Bible says that God will never leave you, no matter what you do. Again, this can seem intimidating because often we want to run from God when we recognize sin in our lives. But don't even when you have not confessed your sins to Him he ALREADY knows what you did.
Psalm 139:11-12 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
These verses reflect the human heart’s desire to run from God. But running from God is pointless. We can never get away from him. And this is a good thing. God loves us so much that no matter who we are and what we do, he never stops loving us. How incredible is that?? unconditional love!
Dear Heavenly Father, you are truly beyond us in every way, yet you are intimately involved in every area of our very human existence and commitments, and we give thanks and praise to you for your unending love for each one of us. You have nurtured and blessed each of us as we grew in the womb of your love and compassion over many years; and we give thanks for the trust in you that has grown in us as we have developed and reached maturity.
We praise you for the way you have placed your hand on us and every blessing you have provided, especially those that we do not see, and that you have communicated to us in wordless ways, the depths of your love for us, so that we can understand and know that we are your beloved child.
We give thanks and praise to you that you trust us enough to share some of your thoughts with our limited minds and hearts; and that deep within us, there is that spark of your holy life to enrich and bless us; so that we always have an inner yearning to be near you and to be blessed by you.
Creator of all things, love of all, the Great I am, in your power, majesty and infinite love, you have stated and shown that your eternal presence is with each of us at all times, so that in the morning, you are there with us when we wake; your are with us as we face life throughout the day; and remain with us as we lay our heads down to sleep.
Lord Jesus we love You. We pray You would refine us by the power of Your Holy Spirit so there will be more of You in our lives. We realize we are made in Your image. Our desire is to reflect who You say we are in our lives each and every day. Help us to take steps towards Spiritual maturity. Lord we pray You would bring someone along side each of us who has come to know You and is committed to their walk with You to help us grow, to know Your Word and how we are able to apply it to our lives. Thank you for your interest in our lives Heavenly Father. Such unconditional love that we know we are not worthy of but by your grace receive. In your sweet sons name, Jesus Christ. Amen
